Mini, as a puppy

Mini, as a puppy

Mini is my youngest daughter’s dog. She is a Miniature Pinscher mix (mini pin).

Mini became a part of our family Christmas 2011. As a puppy, she was just a tiny, chubby fur ball. I often wondered if she would ever get big enough or even brave enough to get herself off of the couch.

Over time, she has grown. She is no longer a chubby, fur ball. She has slimmed down & now has long hair. Mini is a pretty girl. Although she is not a big dog, she is no longer so tiny. Yes, she can now get down from furniture by herself.

She absolutely loves my daughter. She gets along just fine with everyone in our house, but is not so thrilled with other people, except for one of my grandsons. She may be little, but she has a big, nasty sounding bark whenever anyone comes around. It seems that she is intimidated or fearful of people who don’t live here. Which is a shame because, Mini is actually a sweet, affectionate dog with people she likes.

Mini has a slightly unique talent. I noticed it when she was a puppy. When I came in the room she would get real excited. I would say, “I love you“. After several times, I started noticing she would then start making the weirdest sounds, as if she was mocking me. Eventually, I realized she actually was trying to mimic what I was saying. It wasn’t long before she improved the sound. One day, before my dad had his massive stroke, he was sitting on the couch talking to me. I noticed Mini was all excited, so I said, “Mini, I love you“. She replied the way she usually did. My dad looking completely shocked, said, “What the –! That dog can talk!” (yes I left out certain colorful words that came out of his mouth 🙂 ) So, yes others have heard it. I was also able to get her to say “Momma“. Weird thing was she seemed to only say these things for me. Now that she is older, it almost seems like she has lost the ability to “talk”. Recently, I have noticed that she has started trying again. So, maybe I should work with her and see if she will start doing it now.

Mini also loves to “splash“. During the summer, I keep a small, plastic wading pool setup for her. She loves to get in it. When we say splash, she starts spinning around kicking & splashing water. She contently continues for long periods of time. If we even mention the word splash around her, she gets all excited.

Mini has a couple of nicknames:
Two of my daughters often call her “Chubs” or “Chubby” (goes back to when she was a puppy).
I often call her “Mini Moo”. I’m not exactly sure why.
Yes, she answers to her name and her nicknames.
