Christmas 2016 brought new additions to our household; two little kittens, Malie and Keanu.
Both kittens were suppose to be about the same age, but Malie just seems to be a bit more of a baby kitten than Keanu. I kind of believe she may be at le
ast a week or two younger than Keanu.
My daughter named her for the Hawaiian word Malie that means calm. A very fitting name. Honestly, I am sure the way we pronounce her name is way off from the proper way; for that I apologize to those from Hawaii.
When Malie arrived she seemed very curious. We had the impression that she would end up being the active one. First impressions can be wrong.
Malie is a pretty, little calico kitten. She has such a sweet, calm personality. Her calmness seems to be noticed by everyone in the house, including Mini and Will.
When you look at her all you can think is how much she looks and acts like such a sweet little baby.
Malie spends most of her time sleeping. She just seems content to curl up and sleep, usually with her face covered or down. Malie really loves to curl up on the heat registers in the house. When she is ready for bed at night, she insists that my daughter, Sarah, go to bed so she can curl up and sleep on her. If Sarah isn’t laying down when Malie thinks it’s bedtime, she will follow Sarah around, getting under her feet, and persists on letting her know it is bedtime.
While Will, who can be a bit feisty when he doesn’t like something or someone, is a bit put off by the idea of these kittens invading his home, he seems to be a bit more tolerate of Malie. He cautiously watches her and from time to time will come up and sniff her. We are hopefully that they will become friends at some point.
Malie doesn’t seem to realize that another animal may not like her. She just calmly walks up to the other animals and will try to curl up next to them to sleep. We have realized that Mini doesn’t particularly like any other animal; except the random moments she decides she likes to be near Will. Malie may be the major exception for Mini. Thankfully, Mini had been very tolerant of having Malie around. This is a good thing since Mini seems to be the main furry family member that Malie wants to be curled up with. Sarah is really hopefully that Mini and Malie become good friends.
Nicknames: “The Baby”
I have started also referring to her as the little princess
